I was sitting in my van, I adjusted the headrest and bam! It went active! jutted forward, looks broken , pieces of plastic bent. Called dodge. They said it happens, faulty plastic,i'm out of warranty, so to order them they are $900. And they are on back order. I'm so pissed! It didn't perform when it should have , I believe it's faulty. Dodge should replace it. It's not safe. I'm going to email and call corporate to complain, wonder if national highway safety institute, and consumer reports should be contacted as well. This should be a recall. My van is 2014. 117000 miles . This is ridiculous!

  • It should be reported to NHTSA. It should be treated like an airbag.
  • Don't know how dangerous this system is, but think is part of the airbag system.
Should be replaced for free, you should also get medical attention, just in case.

Accept Chryslercares help, but don't keep it secret, let us know how it was handled.

This should be a NHTSA recall case.

It really concerns me that most of the reports I see are 2014 models, give or take a year.

Your average is 2014.5, so maybe you should care.

I called headquarters and filed a claim, they emailed me today saying to bring it to a dealer to have the headrest repaired/replaced at THEIR expense. Yay! But the bad news is the head rest is on back order. I need to go first to the dealer so they can see it , then they can order one. They have the approval code from corporate why do I need to go down there on my time just to have them look at it and then have them order it? What sucks is i have to drive my van like this until the part comes in. Unsafe much? I say pull one out of a caravan that's just sitting on their lot , not selling, park it out of salesfloor and put the headrest in my van. Then when the part comes in put it in the new van. It's just sitting there . Why should a customer have to wait for a safety part to come in? It could take weeks or months! I say if they were paying for a rental they'd get that part in a lot quicker!

it's completely unacceptable

ford made me wait over a year to replace my drivers airbag then another year for the passenger airbag, while telling me that i cannot have anyone in my vehicle

they also quoted me over 2000 to replace the trim coming up around the airbag that they replaced

you'd think a dealership would be very quick to act on something that could have seriously injured the driver and compromised their safety, it is absolutely critical to treat that customer with the best attention and speed

That is the reason Lemon Law exists.

So you want to get the part replaced with another, potentially defective part? Wait for a new, revised part to be available because this looks to be an issue among a string of years.

My wife was in an accident in sept of 2016 and has had neck, shoulder, head pain ever since. She had a concussion and mild whiplash too, which is what the seats were designed to prevent. I'm now glad that we replaced the van with a Toyota Sienna. I was thinking of someday getting another blue 5th gen because I miss our old one sometimes, but not anymore! Bad design!

One that might go off unexpectedly is better than no headrest at all. If anything, have one installed and not connected. I did read the manual today that says they can be reset without replacement.

And it could very well be a control problem and not a headrest problem.

Reset it if the plastic tabs didn't crumble or break off due to the force of the little struts going off. That's why it went off on its own. The plastic was broken prob due to weakness. There are no updates in design, due to dodge cancelling the design of this model by May of next year.
