So we're dropping off our new to us 2014 Grand Caravan at the dealership this evening, have about 35 miles left on the factory warranty. (bought it 2500 miles ago) The issue we're occasionally having is that the passenger side door will intermittently not close completely. It will appear to close and be flush, but not latch, then back up 3/4 of an inch and repeatedly try to close. Giving it a little bit of a hip check seems to latch it into place. Seems to happen more when it's warmer and in direct sunlight.

So what intelligent sounding things can I tell the shop guy when he calls me tomorrow (cool and cloudy, of course) and says he can't find anything wrong?

(replaced our 99 Grand Caravan which suffered a terminal case of rust from our Minnesota winters... Driver's side strut tower rusted over halfway out...)

If you are still under factory warranty get your tail directly into their warranty department and buy a MaxCare extended warranty. If you don't you will be sorry. If I had it to do over again I would get a 10 year 120,000 mile Maxcare warranty, get the top-of-the-line with the Rent-A-Car you're going to need it.

The door alone is going to cost you a 1000 bucks when it fails in two weeks.

My mother inlaw had the same problem with her 2012 when she bought it ( it was an ex rental ) the problem was that the track was bent at the top of the door because we guess some kids were hanging off of it . But I agree that you should get the max care warranty if you can .

Hi BD of MN,

I checked to see if there were any technical service bulletins that matched the description of the door concern you're experiencing, and unfortunately did not find anything similar. It definitely could be that the track is bent, but your dealership will need to confirm. If there is anything I can do to assist, such as following up at your dealership, please let me know in a PM with your VIN!
