My driver's side strut tower is getting very rusty. Is it possible that this is the cause of the creaking in my suspension? Also has anybody had this strut tower fail. Anything else that might be causing this "creaky" noise? Thanks.
There are lots of threads on rusty strut towers and the cure is quite fixable with a $30 cap from Chrysler and some tubes of special epoxy (that cost more than the caps!)
There are many things that can make the suspension groan and creak ....
The strut bearings (on top of the strut)
Sway bar links
Track rod ends
Lower ball joints
Sway bar bushings
A frame (swing bar) bushings
If your strut towers are nearly rusted out, then all of these things are probably of an age that they need attention/replacement.
I've not heard of anyone's strut actually giving way, but rusted strut towers in these vans is a common issue due to its design.
