I cant remember for sure, but I think its 3 oz. The dealer should actually tell you that, or the place you bought it.

Depends on the type of compressor you have as well...

Also, if you replaced other components, such as the evaporator, condensor, etc etc.. each requires an ounce or so as well...

Some people here will have that data... I dont have that.. I got it from the dealer. They may not tell you over the phone.. may have to show up.. unless you have a friend there etc..

It's ridiculous if they won't tell you that. If that's the case, ask the folks here.

It's also in the factory service manual, if you have that. For some reason, on my '97 3.8L with front and rear air, I seem to recall about 10 oz. for the compressor, but maybe that was the total system capacity. I don't really remember now. I can take a look tonight.

10 is probably the entire system.. something like

    3 compressor
    2 evap
    2 condensor
    2 rear evap
    1 all other

something like that... depending on your system...

If you had 5 oz in there... should not have grenaded? if you only ran it for a few minutes..
Sounds more like a bad clutch bearing... maybe ok..
