Finally after 2 years of not being able to see at night, ive purchased and installed new headlight assemblies on my 96 LXi.
Now, I have one shining up in the trees, and one off to the right hand ditch!! Although i can still see better than i could before, id love to have them both shining into my own lane.
Does anyone have advice or instructions on how to adjust the beam, so i dont have two stray beams, that would annoy myself and other drivers??
They are easy to aim, but I don't have specific instructions to offer; it has been a while. Did you pop in a set of GE NighHawk bulbs while you were at it?
no, the company that i got the headlights from, sent some complimentary oem bulbs. i have some others that i ordered, then got afraid to use them because of the wiring problems some people have had.
so where do i find these GE nighthawk bulbs so i can check into them?
Ok, I assume its the same as on my 97 (its been about a year since I looked at a 96)
lift the bonnet, and look above the lights. There should be a spirit level-like bubble area. Now, park somewhere flat, and you want to adjust them so they're around the center point (this assumes they were put in pretty accurately)
there should be a hex stud nearby where you can put something like a 5-6mm socket on it, and adjust it. the one towards the center of the vehicle does up/down, the one on the outside is left/right iirc. Adjust them to roughly read -0- on the bubble guage. Then, see how they work. If thats not good enough, do it the way you always manually aimed them - be some 10ft from a flat wall, and work from the projected shape of the light on the wall, adjust until the pattern is correct - you will need either a flashlight and to do this is the dark, or a dark garage with an overhead light, as there may be some chalking of the wall needed - just google headlight aiming, and you should find the proper technique, but the adjustment is done with those hex studs.
WalMart carries the NightHawk line of GE bulbs. They are the brightest and best focused bulbs that run at conventional OEM wattage, and are not coated with any dye to reduce their output.
Richard.
