    Remote start?

Does anyone know how easy it is to install a dealer remote start on a 2012 caravan?
Is it whole unit plug and play, or does it need to be hardwired into the electrical system.
I really want it, but not keen on having the techs tap into the stock wiring.

With the dealer doing it it should be plug and play, probably has to be enabled in the system. It's so worth it, the first time you get into a cool car in the summer or a warm one in the winter, it will have already paid for itself.

    Here's a link on the instructions for a 2009

I think its basically plug and program and play.

The dealer has to program it for it to work.

How much should I expect to pay at a US dealer to add remote start to my 2012 T&C?

I think the kit is like $270 and then maybe an hour (maybe 1.5 hours) for labor. It's pretty much plug and play, but I do think you have to change one module. I know it has to be programmed. The cool thing about the kit is you get 2 new key FOBIKs with the remote start button. That's a pretty good deal seeing how replacement FOBIKs are around $150 at the dealer. Get the remote start kit for pretty much the price of replacement FOBIKs with programming.

FYI: Soon as the budget allows (and the wife is SURE she's not trading the 2010 for a 2012 Grand Cherokee) this will be done to our 2010.

Thats actually quite similar to what my (Canadian) dealer quoted me on our '11 as well.

I probably should have done that instead of buying a third key on ebay and then having them program it, but the 3rd key was less than $100, and the remote start would be more than that. Having said that, I wish we had it now lol.

All I have seen is the remote start kits for 2008-2010's not the 2001-2012. I believe there is a slight difference in the installation (I have been looking at all the other kits, and it changes on the 2011 from a pin hood switch to a latch hood switch). I asked the dealer, and they said there is nothing for the 2011-2012 yet.

Man was I wrong. The remote start kit has changed. Now it only comes with 1 fob (and it's a 3 button fob, so for those of us with power doors and hatch, there is not a button for that). Also, you have to change the antenna for the wireless control module. So it probably would be 2 to 3 hours of labor.

I think I'm just going to have an aftermarket remote start kit installed.

I took my fob apart the other day when it wasn't working, and noticed that it has the contacts for all 7 buttons, even though I only have the 3 button fob (the remote start would be a 4 button, you forgot the panic button). I wonder if all you have to do is change the skin from the old 7 button to the new one.

Chrysler's remotes have been like this for a while.

On my Caliber, the remote and key are one unit and if i take it apart, i can press the other contacts and get it to flash the lights with the other buttons. I've already tried this with our van, but I don't think it did anything. Having said that, maybe on a vehicle with more features (such as your van) if you press the other buttons, it would work? (By changing the rubber button piece)

But really, the 2011+ kit only comes with one key? Thats lame.
