Question DESPERATE! Automatic Power Door Lock Question & Problems

I have a 99 Town & Country. My main questions is:
CAN YOU DISABLE THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK FEATURE?A few months ago, my passenger sliding door POWER lock stopped working - but the others were okay (and still work). A few days ago, as I started to drive away I jumped out of my skin when this horrible loud noise came from the back of the van. I eventually realized that it was the automatic door lock feature locking the doors as I reached the designated speed. It locks the doors, but I assume the motor or something is going bad cause the noise every time is UNBEARABLE! It almost scared my mom into a heart attack today when I picked her up for a ride. I'm sure it costs an arm and a leg to get it fixed (which I really can't afford after the holidays) so I'm wondering if there is a way to disable this thing so it doesn't freak me and my passengers out every time I drive off after a door's been opened. And, if you do know, what is the problem and how much is an estimated repair cost on this (and to fix my sliding door power lock). THANKS SO MUCH!

It is probably in the owner's manual. Something like turning the key three times while holding the lock button down or something like that. I disabled it in my 95, and a similar procedure is in my 03 owner's manual, so I can only assume it was in the 3rd gen vans also.

Found it on http://www.automotiveforums.com/t181169.html

1.Close all doors, 2. Put key in ignition, Turn ignition key between the off and on position "FOUR" times ending in the off position (do not start the engine), 3. Press the drivers door power lock button to lock the doors, you will hear a single chime when programming is complete. This feature works to set or unset auto door locks.

Hey Johnson,

If you are a mechanical inclinded, the procedure to remove the actuator to the slider is not that hard. As to a replacement, you can get a used one from the wreckers (cheaper $$).

Great find from mmahamm, thanks for the input.

Thumbs up Thank You!

TERRIFIC! That did the trick and it's now turned off! It still makes a horrible noise when I lock and unlock the doors, but at least it doesn't do it automatically when I start to drive off! Now I just need to find a place to fix it for a reasonable price (in my dreams!). THANKS AGAIN!

Hey Woggy - thank's for the information! Do you know what the part is called that I would need to be looking for to replace? I'm assuming it's somewhere in the rear of the van (behind a side panel or something) cause that's where the noise is the worst. If I had an idea of what I'm looking for, I can call around to some local wrecking/junk parts places. And your right, that was a GREAT piece of info from mmahamm! THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!

I had good luck getting a radiator fan and hood for my 95 Plymouth GV. The best my mechanic could do was $210 for a used part. I was able to find a new one on ebay for $110. A dealer's parts department can help you find out what the part is called, and then once you have it you can probably find one online.

The part is called the "sliding door regulator" at least that's what we call it on the line when we build these. Should be nice to do down there in AZ, we just got 9" of snow in the last 2 days + freezing rain. Hope this helps.
