'01 T&C Power Window Problem

I have a problem with my '01 Town and Country where the driver's side power window will intermittently not roll up. I checked some other forums and product review sites and this seems to be a common problem with these vans. I called the dealer today and they acknowledged that this was a common problem, and said the fix was to replace the window regulator (~$400 job parts+labor). There is no recall from Chrysler on this yet, and according to the dealer, there has been no modification to the design of the window regulator to fix this problem. So I'm faced with spending $400 to put another potentially defective regulator in my van.

Two questions:
1. Has anyone seen this problem and come up with a fix besides replacing the window regulator?
2. How do we get Chrysler's attention on this? I'm planning to call the zone rep, but didn't know if there was any way to do it through this forum as well.

Maybe I should not jinx myself, but I have not had this problem with my 2001. I don't think anyone else has had it either, on here, have they?

Right now, all I can suggest is to document and keep any/all receipts of any work you do so IF there is any reimbursment in the future, you have all your bases covered.

MY father-in-law had the same thing on his 01 Caravan. Don't know what he did to fix it. My guess is he had the repair done that you're looking at. If you get it fixed with the current design I would say odds are still pretty good that you won't have the same prob twice, but then again Murphy's law says otherwise!

The window works in all mopor cars is dismal. We had our power window inards replaced 3 times in our 2000 intrepid. What most people seemed to do on those boards if theres was out of warranty is just gt parts from a junker and replace it themselves.

I had a 1995 Plymouth Grand Voyager with power windows. Drivers side was replaced in 1996 due to an accident, but never had a lick of trouble with them

Is there any kind of preventative maintenace that could be done on the windows to avoid this problem (ie cleaning window tracks, lubing hinge or roating points of friction due to use and wear and tear), I have read that in some cases the passengers side goes as well occasionally. Expensive fix if you have to repalce the motor and I'm guessing all the permanently attached non-repairable/rebuildable hardware etc.

Sounds like Chrysler should have stayed with the 1995 power window design...

I'm not aware of any preventive maintenance, but in my case the problem is definitely electrical, not mechanical. When the window does work, it works smoothly (doesn't bind or catch). The dealer indicated that, over time, a short develops in the motor that causes this problem. Strange thing is it is only in the up direction -- never had it fail to roll down.

You think that's bad? 5 power window motors replaced in my mom's former 1995 Olds Achieva. 3 under the 3/36 warranty, one just outside of warranty but replaced at no cost because of the previous problems we'd had with it. Likewise, 4 out of the 5 motors were on the driver's door.

I have not seen a car worse than that power windows wise. Doesn't mean that one doesn't exist, but we've had more trouble with GM power windows than anything else we've owned with them. As a side note, neither Hyundai has had PW problems.

I'm experiencing the same exact problem with my 2001 T&C driver's window. Sometimes, especially if you use the function where you just hit the button and it drops the window all the way down, the window will not go all the way back up. It's like a relay or something is overheating. If you wait a while it may go up an inch at a time. Lots of fun when it's raining. Just wondered in a year since this original post if anny solutions have been found. Thanks

I have heard a lot about bad power window stuff in Mopars. For what it's worth, I've never had a power window problem on any of my vehicles that's had them ('84 Cutlass, '97 Saturn, '97 Cadillac, '03 Dodge). They were getting SLOW in my old Cutlass, but I think the motors just needed rebuilding with new brushes.
