Exclamation 2007 Chrysler T&C = WILL NOT START BC of ALARM

Just earlier i went out to start my van and when I turned the key the alarm sounded. This has happened before and I simply hit the unlock button a couple of times and try again ... usually works. It didn't work. So now bascially everytime we try to start the van it acts like it does not recognize the key? We have looked for a switch or something under the dash to maybe reset it ... have tried holding the key in the unlock position .... etc. If anyone can help ... please do. Can't get to work in the AM if the thing isn't working.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

    Ned more info.

Do you have an aftermarket alarm or just the factory one?
Do you have a keyfob (remote) or just using a manual key?

Try leaving the car unlocked after running it. If it still does that, the key may not be recognized. Is the key damaged? Try using another key.

I believe that it is a factory alarm. I am not sure ... we bought it used in 2008. But just barely used.

And if a fob key has an unlock button, lock button and a panic button on it, then that is what i have.

And we can't even get it to start, when we turn the key over the alarm just sounds. We can't try what you suggested until we get it to turn over ...

I am just at a loss.

Oh we don't have another key ... only have the one for it. As far as I know, the key is not damaged. It worked @ around 3 this afternoon and then 5 when I went back out to leave again ... the alarm just sounds every time I try to turn it over and prevents the van from starting.

Thanks for all of your help.

Make sure your van battery is fully charged.
Make sure the battery in your key/remote is not dead. Can you lock/unlock the van with your remote buttons? If yes, unlock it with the remote before putting the key in.

Beyond that, probably exceeds DIY status.

Note: Just realized this. On my 2004, if you start the van with the wrong key, it will start but shut off after 2 seconds. I believe that's standard on all vans after about 2003. No alarm sounds. So no, it's not that it doesn't recognize the key, it's a different issue. I was wrong in my previous post.

Your key lost it's programming with the SKIM module for some reason. It's not common, but it does happen. The keys use rolling codes so it may roll back to reconize the key, but it's not likely. Sadly enough it looks like a tow to the dealer and paying for the RKE/SKIM module to be reprogrammed is in your future.

I figured it was something like that! ARGH! And there is really nothing I can do about it myself is there? Or a way to disable it to drive it into the dealer?

Thanks for all of your replies. I do think we have a problem with the programming, that's just what it sounds like. GRRR. Does anyone know how much something like that costs?

Make sure to let us know what it was when you get it fixed, so we can all learn.

    assuming OEM security sys.
you can try a mobile automotive locksmith (may be cheaper than towing it + work)- make sure to ask them if they can program "2nd Generation Chrysler Sentry" keys / modules...

Also, you can pry the key head apart and examine the pcb inside for corrosion / loose or broken components..

PS: just to make sure, if the alarm sounds a siren - it's aftermarket (unless you're in Europe). factory setup blows horn only (and flashes lights)...

Far as I know you can't do anything yourself. We charge $40 for such a thing at our dealership. I have no idea about other dealers. The mobile locksmith isn't a bad idea, but make sure they know what they are doing or they can smoke your programming in your PCM. Granted not that it would make any difference right now, your dead in the water anyway...
