What is a TCM quick learn?

I have a 02 limited T&C with 121,678. Tranny jerks 50% of the time if i have the RPMs below 2000. It happens only when it shifts to second. 3rd shifts great and down shifting no problems. It feels like a jerk jerk jerk when it shift to 2nd gear. If i push the RPM's high when starting from a stop it will shift fine. I changed the tranny fluid and found no metal shavings on the bottom pan. I am asking if a TCM quick learn will correct the timing issue on shifting pattern, or am i screwed into paying the dealership to diagnose the issue i am having. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks...

quick learn should improve the shifting for a while.. it seems fairly common to have harsh shifts after ATF & filter change, but if the seals are starting to leak or solenoids are sticking quick learn may not be much help in the longer run..
I've put a bottle of slick50 into 3rd gen tranny at about same mileage and it significantly improved shift quality... (figured I'd try it first)

When's the last time you changed the fluid and put +4 in it? If it's been more than 30K you're overdue.

We purchased the van 2 years ago and the previous owners did a flush on it. The van sat in the back of the dealership with a dead battery for 6 months as they forgot they had it for a trade in. I ran into the old owners and asked them if they had problems and they said no. I though it was the wrong fluid so i changed it but no help. I was thinking about trying trick slick. I don't know if its even worth taking it into the dealership to have it diagnose since its quit expensive. Last question... What is a Re-flash on the tcm? Thanks for the reply's... Much appreciated....

TCM re-flash is software (to be technically correct "firmware") update..
BTW, these vans (gasoline versions) do not have a separate TCM - everything is packed into NGC (next generation controller) PCM+TCM..

If ATF flush was done by a dealer it should have had ATF+4 in it.. if not, one service ATF change only replaces less than half the fluid... (you should change the fluid 2 more times at least 100 miles apart.. or flush with correct fluid, no need to change the filter again if the one you took out was in decent shape and not too much residue in the pan...)

41TE (these trans) are notorious for rejecting generic fluid..

Edit: harsh 1-2 shift below 2K RPM seems to be a "standard" feature on these.. (my van does it on occasion - happens most often warmed up in bumper to bumper traffic..)

Oh wait, Welcome to the forums!
