2000 Town & Country A/C recharge

Good evening all and thanks for looking at my question.

We have a 2000 T&C LTD and the a/c started blowing less than desirable warmer air over the past few days. I purchased a 19 oz recharge canister with a gauge, but as soon as I connected the hose to the low port, nothing happened. It will not accept the charge. I sat there for almost 30 minutes shaking the darn can and the pressure on the gauge just kept getting lower not to mention the a/c starting blowing warmer air. Any suggestions ?

could be AIR in the high line..... is compressor turning?

This happened to me long ago as well, i had air in the line.. Had to get it Vacumed out and recharged by a shop. air was stopping it up in the high side.

The few times I've serviced refrigerant I had to turn the can upside down to get it in the system. Have you tried that? When making the connection open the servicing valve slightly and verify you have gasious flow before you make the connection or else you'll be putting air and humidity from the servicing hose in the system. Verify the seals on both ends of the service tube and valve are in good shape. Make sure the connection snaps into place. Once connected fully open the valve and turn the can upside down for several seconds at a time.

Thanks for your replies RIP and 22bad4u2. Your comments both helped. I turned the engine off and let it sit for a bit, then decided to check the valve on the canister which did not appear to be working correctly, given that my arm was about to fall off from shaking back and forth. I ended taking it back to where I bought it and they replaced it. Within minutes I was piercing, sealing, and shaking my way to comfort.

did the cans get lighter? low side (larger fitting ) did it feel like freon moving in ,

the pressure should be at least the temp out side with engine off (60 deg = 60psi)
