change spare tire from doughnut to full size?

Hello. I have the doughnut spare tires on my 2003 Caravan and 2007 T&C (both short wheelbase) and want to use full-size spares instead. Is there anything I need to add or change on the storage/lowering mechanism? Thanks.

On mine with the long wheelbase, I had no problems at all.

Order the steel rim from tire rack, it is at a good price, and it comes with extra lug nuts. The donut has been in the shed for year now

just make sure the valve stem is pointing down and is towards the rear of the car.

Makes it easier to check the air pressure

My 07 T&C SWB came with a full size spare. Just remember to lower & raise the spare tire once a year to keep the spare tire mechanism working freely.

When I replaced our spare carrier after the well known spring release mechanism failure, where just the cable comes down and the tire retainer stays on, the dealer asked me if I wanted it for a donut or full size as there were two different part #'s for our 2001 GCV.

I was pricing out a new winch for the spare at the dealer, over $200, but there was a different part number depending on whether or not you had a full size or compact spare. I don't know what the difference is. The compact is much lighter though.

Just get a used full sized tire from the auto wreckers for about $30 rim and all. For the amount that you'd use it save some money.

I thought he was talking about the stowage mechanism not the wheel and tire assembly.
