Second Row Captains Chairs

We recently got a 98 GC ES 3.8L, with a second row bench........does anyone know if you can take the bench out and put in a captains chair? I know that you are not able to put in two captains chairs due to the fact that there is only one set of tracks, but I think that one may be possible......does anyone know for sure? If not, can someone with second row captains chairs please measure the distance between tracks on bottom of the chair so that I can see if they would fit into the tracks in my van? Also, can you please measure the distance between the front and back hooks (where the seats lock into the floor)? Thanks a lot! I am guessing the dimensions are the same as the captains chairs in the front (which I obviously have), but want I to make sure before I go throught the process of buying a chair that will not fit into our van.

Going one step further, does anyone happen to know where I could pick up a captains chair cheaply? ;)

Thanks for the insight........now you got me wondering..........all the VIN's matched up, and CarFax also indicated an ES (Sport)..... :ask_wsign Also, Edmunds shows it as an option...hmmm

I believe the bench seat and Quad Seats both used the same tracks. Whether you ordered a bench or buckets from the factory, all the floor tracks were the same. I'm pretty sure they are on the 4th gens, and pretty sure on the 3rd gens also.

Why are you saying that you know you can't put in two buckets seats because there is only one set of tracks? You should have two "pairs" of front tracks, no?

This is a picture of mine. http://www.jnjhome.net/dodge/images/quadseats_high.jpg Of course it's a 4th gen, but my grandfather's '99 is the same way. There are two "pairs" of front tracks. Here's a picture of the third Fold-N-Tumble row. The tracks are exactly the same as the 2nd row. Does your 2nd/3rd row tracks look like these? http://www.jnjhome.net/dodge/images/splitbenchdown_high.jpg

My tracks do not look like that..........My second row has only two tracks (one set) that are near the middle of the van. In other words, there is no way to put in two captains chairs - only one. The bench in the second row is not as long/wide as the thrid row bench. It goes all the way over on the drivers side, but is shorter on the passenger side, allowing for a "passage" to the third row.

I will try to take a picture tonight.

We previously had a 97 Grand Voyager (with quad captains charis) and the configuration of tracks was more like the one you posted - except the back only had one set of tracks for the third row bench.

Thanks for the help, guys.

I just went through this topic a week or so ago on this forum. I bought 2 quad seats on ebay, from a 1996 Gr. Caravan. They fit perfectly in my 1999 Grand Voyager that came with the bench seat like you described. The thread is here: http://forum.chryslerminivan.net/showthread.php?t=2551

The pic above looks like it's out of a different generation of these vans. My tracks are also different from the pic.

The pictures are out of my 2003 (a 4th gen), but they matched closely my grandfather's 1999 (a 3rd gen). Both have quad seats with near identical floor brackets (especially the 2nd row), but I stand corrected that the vans with 2nd row benches only got ONE pair of brackets instead of TWO like a quad seat van got.

BTW, You should be able to put in both captain's chairs in the 2nd (middle?) row. The description of the tracks is throwing me off here. For example, the pic above shows 2 sets (4) tracks. However, the short bench has one set (2) tracxks. One quad seat hooks into the left track and the other into the right track. The bench fits into the same tracks.

You are right, now that I think about it, the second row captain chairs in our 97 went on one rack, not two.......I was incorrect in thinking that I needed 4 rails (2 sets) for two quad seats.

Thanks for your help. By the way, if you don't mind me asking.........how much did you pay for the two quad seats? How much was shipping (where did they ship from and where did they ship to)? I am just curious how much I should expect to pay.......... :ask_wsign

I got them off e bay. They wanteed $80 each but I bid $40 each and won them. We drove 6 hours to pick them up as we didn't think shipping would be cheap. I am in DC and we got them in Ohio.

Besides being a PITA going to pick them up, sounds like you got a great deal!
