Blinking Green Light on Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror.. Is Yours?

Since I took delivery of my '11 Limited a few days ago, I've noticed the green light to the left of the power button on the Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror constantly blinks on and off. I checked the manual, and it says the light should be on solid when the mirror is on and the Auto-Dimming function is enabled, and off when its not. It mentions nothing about it blinking. Did a google search, and found some others with dodges, jeeps, etc. with similar issues, but noone posted their resolution. One post actually mentioned the dealer needed to perform a software update or flash to fix it??

Before I make an appointment at the dealer like a crazy person for something like this, can anyone else take a look at theirs and confirm? Is the light solid? If you push the power button, does the light turn off? Do you have anything hanging from the mirror like a parking tag, etc?

Thanks in Advance....

Thanks everyone! Looks like I'll have to take it in and have them take a look, no biggie... Maybe something related to the PCM replacement?? You know cars these days have come a long way when I need to take my van back to the dealership for a software update, to fix the rear-view mirror!!!

Other than this minor detail the van has been great! :thumb:

Update... I called the dealership this morning, and the service manager took the time to look up the problem while I was on the phone. He said that when it blinks on-off-on, etc at a rate of about 1 second (which mine was), that means the smart beam headlight sensor for the automatic high beams is out of alignment, and needs to be aligned. He looked up the procedure to see if it was something I could do without bringing the van in, and found that its quite a lengthy procedure. He mentioned something about needing to make marks with chalk or crayon at specific points on the windshield and back windows. He also mentioned he doesn't believe the dealership has ever had to do this before. lol. Great!

They hooked me up with another rental car for the day, but instead of another F-150, like they gave me when I had my PCM replaced, this time they gave me a silver 2012 T&C Touring. Feels and drives the same as my '11, nothing different there (I already miss my heated seats and steering wheel though). Hopefully my van will be done today, but after dark, so I can compare the blue to green interior lighting between the two, as thats the only major difference I've read about. I'll snap some pics if I can...

Actually, they just called. Their "tool" wasn't working to re-calibrate my system, so they need to borrow one tomorrow from another dealership nearby. Sounds like quite a procedure from what he was describing. He said they've done it before on Grand Cherokee's and 300's after replacing the windshield, but that they've never had to do it on a Town and Country. I asked him what could cause it to go out of whack, especially with only 350 miles on the odo, and his only guess was exactly what I was thinking... possibly the replacement of the PCM? I wouldn't think the two would be related, but its the only thing thats been done to the van, unless I've got some sort of underlying electrical issues going on. If thats the case, I'm sure I'll notice it over the next few hundred miles...

For the heck of it, I did run a carfax on my new van with my buddies dealer account... It was delivered to its original dealership in Ohio on 6-17-11 with 3 miles on the ODO. On 9-28-11, the Battery was replaced. Does that seem odd to anyone?

Also, heres a link I found for whats involved in re-calibrating the smart-beam headlamps for future reference. Looks like it MUST be performed by the dealer.

I couldnt agree more. After the whole issue with my PCM needing replacement at 233 miles , my dealership really stepped up to the plate and made it right, even though it wasn't really their fault. I couldn't be happier with them. If anyone is in Buffalo, NY or the surrounding area, I HIGHLY recommend West Herr Chrysler Jeep in Orchard Park. Good People!

Yup, tried it tonight after I picked up the van at the dealership. For those of you who don't know what this is... With your van off, hold the power button in on the rear view mirror. While holding it, start the van, and continue to hold the power button on the mirror until the high-beams come on. The van will then cycle through 3 high-low changes. Its kinda neat to jump out of the car and watch them dim down...

My van appears to be fixed, the green light is solid now, and the smart beam headlights seem to be fully functional and functioning correctly. I took the van to some rural road w/o traffic and streetlights to test. The high-beams came on automatically, and faded off when traffic approached head on, or I approached traffic from behind. Pretty remarkable system in my opinion. Put another check in my book for another problem successfully solved by my dealer! :thumb::thumb:

Hi,
New to the forum and that this is a old post but here goes.
Has anyone else had a issue that the auto dim light starts blinking after the PCM is replaced? I have a 2010 T&C and that happened to me 2 months ago when I finally had it back in the dealership they claimed it was the auto high beams needed to be re calibrated at a cost of $400 I did tell them they were working prior to coming in. When I pick it up they were not working as well the auto dim mirrors wasn't it went back to the shop and they claim the high beams are working but the driver door mirror isn't. Has anyone else had these issues?
