Hi shut the car off- hear the radiator fans running -they will not go off-i pulled the negative bat terminal off-so my battery does not drain -so have temporary control of the problem-please advise -as to the most likely cause-if experienced with same problem -thank you ===tony===

So with the battery now disconnected, if you waited until the engine was cold, say overnight, and went and reconnected the battery, would the fan start right up?

Could be a stuck fan relay.

Hi van cooled down some- put the negative terminal back on -all is well- fans not on when the ignition is off-problem seams fixed-for the moment-will have to now keep an eye on this-and the battery wrench handy-i know these things do not heal themselves as a rule-we did have a lot of rain in fla from storm ---fay-will be watching-jump in if you have been here done this !!

Do you have a temp gauge on your dash? Does it look like it's running higher than normal?

I would not be too surprised if the fan was on for a while after the vehicle was shut down, especially if you ran it hard and/or it's hot out.

Make sure your coolant level is OK.

I had this same problem on my 1996 T&C Touring. I shut the van off and the fan kept running. I disconnected the battery, hooked it back up, and the fan didn't run anymore. Unfortunately, the fan relay refused to close when I needed it to close. (at a traffic light) and the van started to overheat.

As long as I was driving the van it would stay cool without the fan running.

I replaced the fan relay, and all was well.

Hold your horses!!!!!! This forum isn't set up for instant messaging.

Your cooling fan relay is on the structure frame the radiator is bolted to (driver's side). Remove the air intake resonator and look down. Should see a small approx 1 inch square contraption with 4 wires leading to it. They cost anywhere from $30 to $60. I recommend the OEM type from the dealer.

Woe! Not a major deal. The problem with you posting every few minutes is if everybody did it, the owners of the website would have to either pay a higher price to the host for the extra space the website was taking up on their servers or the website would have to buy extra server capacity to accommodate the added traffic. That could mean it may be too expensive for the website to continue. Are you alone going to force that issue. Of course not. I was just messing with you more than ...scolding(?). Keep the questions comming. Just give us more time to answer. How much time? At least a couple hours.

BTW - Shelling out $20 for a maintenance manual would be a great investment for all. It will pay for itself in no time. You'll have the added benefit of having answers instantly instead of waiting for an answer on a forum.

You're not doing anything wrong, tony0707. This is the place to ask questions. But you should expect replies within a few hours or even a day, not necessarily instantly.

Hi i am not expecting an instant reply --at all-- but once you have the same problem and have solved it-it would be of more help to explain the location of the part-cost- and any other info that would help in the repair- i sure would do the same for those repairs -that i have experience with-that is the purpose of us being here to begin with-and in many cases a quick response to a given problem is more helpful -than not-lets keep these vans rolling and repaired as quickly as is reasonably possible-i am a gear head and excellent hobby mechanic-with a super stock track record to my name ( an motorcycle racer )-and plan on being as much help here as is humanly possible thank you ===tony lentini===

Any auto parts store should have a collection of Haynes (or similar) manuals... they're pretty good. Sometimes you can find them in your local library, also.

You could also buy one online. Try amazon.

Tony, RELAX. A few points to note...

1. This site averages about 50-100 active users on any given day. Many to most are not mechanically inclined. Not everyone knows your particular van gen/problem/fix. Not everyone sits on-line all day - nothing else to do - just waiting to provide instant replies to pleas for parts numbers and locations. Particularly when badgered, a mere 3 minutes after previously asking, "come on guys-were is the fan relay located ?"

2. No one has perfect and total recall of every symptom from every generation van, and applicable repairs. If you expect that, purchase a Factory Service Manual or subscription to AllData. It'll be a great start - but even those will not have all the answers.

3. No one has a file/listing of every symptom, repair, upgrade, modification, screw-up, and associated prices and procedures - for every vehicle they've ever owned. So no, they can't just point & click to your solution.... Can you, for you cars?

4. This is the internet - How the he11 can we know what's wrong with your_____? This is the internet - No one is obligated to do ANYTHING for you.

5. Finally, this place is a cooperative - the more help & information you give, the more help & information you'll likely receive. Give as good as you get, preferably more. Tangentially, the more endearing you are to the people that spend the most time here (the actual relationships behind all this anonymous text) the more likely they'll be willing to assist you quickly and as completely as they can....
