hello, i am new to this forum, i have a 97 grand caravan le, i have read the owners manual to try to disable the automatic power locks but either something is wrong or i am not doing it right. i have tried several times on and off 4 times then the lock but never get the confirmation chime. so my questions are as follows;

do you go between the on and off, or on and lock (tried both ways)

how fast do you cycle the key between on and off

is it on then off (1), on then off (2) etc. or on (1) then off (2) etc.

this is my 4th dodge/plymouth grand caravans, but my 1st 3rd gen. i currently have a 92 le w/over 180k, and a 97 w/177k. i just sold my other 92 that had 252k on it.

Solved this problem on my 97!

Hey, I had exactly the same problem on my 97 Chrysler Voyager.
Tried everything, by the book, by suggestions from the good people on here. But still could not get it to disable the autolock feature.

Finally found this piece of information. Step 2 below is what I had not been doing.

Step 1. Close all doors.
Step 2. Place ignition key in the OFF position for 20 seconds or more. (this is the step all the other instructions failed to mention)
Step 3. Turn the key to the RUN position and to the OFF position (without cranking the engine). Do this four times. Apparently the "Malfunction" lamp will come on each time when key is in the RUN position - mine did not, however.
Step 4. Press the door lock switch (ie the one on the driver's door that locks all doors) to the lock position.

The programming is now complete - the doors should no longer autolock at 16 mph!

Hope this works for you as it did for me.

Regards,
Andrew:ThumbsUp:

Try fast and slow.....lol i was messing it up too. I did it in the two middle positions. Not key out or start. Just the two in the middle, and I though it was 3 times on/off.:ask_wsign

it is weird that i just can't seem to get it, one of the reasons i want to disable it is because the passenger actuator buzzes loud when it locks (probably should just replace it) but i also don't like to have to unlock the doors everytime i stop.

on a good note i was able to get the remotes i bought on ebay to actually work using the instructions from this forum, my van didn't come with any remotes when i bought it.

Do it fairly fast

I think you need to do the On/Off thing fairly fast, so that it only takes about 5 seconds.
Try doing it fast and see what happens/ then try a bit slower. From memory, you will hear a number of audible "dings" after each on/off cycle.
