Good idea to change it out. Just had the PS fluid changed on my 2001 Sebring a few months ago. I haven't noticed any change, but then again, that's the point.

I agree. When I changed the spark plugs on the 03, I seen no change. Just like when I change the transmission fluid, I see no change. With vehicles, seeing no change when performing a maintenance type of thing, not seeing change may be the best thing.

Changing it is a good idea after all these years. I did mine a few times over a period of a few weeks to get most of it out. Mine still gets terribly dirty around the cap for some reason, I think it is just a characteristic for some reason.

I just replaced the fluid by changing it in the res (draining to nothing by siphon and replacing it) 4 or 5 times. The last time I put in a bottle of Lucas transmission treatment to help condition and quiet. So far I am satisfied and it is quieter.

Just be sure to use transmission fluid, NOT power steering fluid. Tranny fluid is what's specified.

This is correct sir. No ATF+4 in 3rd generation vans. From what I've heard the rubber hoses are not able to handle that.

Now I´m in doubt

Every car I had with power steering had specified regular ATF (A´type) for power steering. Is it the same you guys call power steering fluid?

Not the same. At least here the older cars have a specific type of fluid for the power steering. Depends on the system and how it was designed.

Andyg, could tou please recommend any brand of power steering fluid ? Here in Brazil it´s not common to use that, I surfed at local websites from Shell, Mobil, Castrol, Bardahl and Petrobras and all of then just sow ATF A-type to be used on power steering.
Anyone of the power steering fluids we see on Summit Racing are aquivalent to Mopar power steering fluid?

Considering the problem you have, you could either just use the ATF or a high quality anti foaming hydraulic fluid. I would just use the ATF and forget about it if it is hard to find the "regular" fluid.

Your PS cap or stick should tell you what type of fluid to use, ATF or power steering fluid, and older Chryslers would be damaged by ATF, it is not compatible with the rubber, so go with what the cap says.

After about 120,000 miles the Power Steering system on our 1998 DGC started groaning and complaining under certain conditions. Taking the lead from the Gen 4 vans I simply sucked all of the PS fluid I could out of the reservior and replaced it with ATF+4; I did this step three or four times and the groaning issue was solved. Fifty thousand miles later when I traded the old girl in the steering was still groan and noise free.
