Body Control Module?

Any one here had theirs replaced? At least I think that is what the dealer called it. It is the module that controls the automatic doors, remote key functions and such.
I was getting out of the van yesterday and when I opened the door the radio did not turn off. I closed the door, turned the key to Acc and removed it and then the radio turned off when the door opened. I then hit the drives side sliding door switch and it did not work. The remote did not work at all. I had to lock it and then unlock it manually. It then started working, but my check engine light was on. I did the code check, but did not write the #'s down.
Brought it to the dealer and they said it was the module, but it would be 2-3 days till it comes in.

Yes, the same things happen to my mom's 2005 Town and County. They were on vacation in Texas from California. The same thing check engine light came on the automatic doors did not work also the Miles to empty on the over head computer read zero after she just filled it up. It also took a few days to get the part, though the dealer let her keep the van until the part came in. It ran fine. That was in August and no problems since.

I just had mine replaced on my 02 GC eX. Had around 45k miles on it. The back door wouldn't open via remote/button on console. The sliders acted up once around the time the back door completely quit. No check engine light or other issues other than the door. The dealer had it a week, BUT...it was right at new years and it took longer to get the part in b/c of that. It was covered under warranty b/c we had a previous complaint on the door. So far, so good...no other issues.

err, how much does it actually cost for the BCM. I am a little nervous now after reading this. I have not had any problems, other than the flickering lights issue. This is not BCM related I believe.

I will ask tomorrow when I get mine done.
I know is is a special order part. I'm not even sure if you can buy it yourself from the way the service writer was talking.

I also forgot, mine also did the MTE and MPG blanked out on the overhead console, but the data came back when it started working.

I think we are all nervous now!

I had mine replaced, but that was because the Best Buy installer spliced some wires into it, then yanked them out and shorted it in the process. So I didn't pay for it.

I have had some issues with the BCM on the '92, but they've always been solved by unplugging the battery and reconnecting it after a few minutes. And yes, this was what the dealer recommended we do before worrying too much about it.

There is no sense in getting nervous and/or loosing sleep over this. There are THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of these vans built and in that amount of vehicles there will be some prolems. That does not mean YOU will have those problems, however you may. WHY WORRY about something you have no control over and especially something like this that does not DISABLE the vehicle and leave you stranded. There are many other thing out in the world that are more important to worry about, not that you should worry about them. WORRY makes you OLDER.

Plus all vehicles today have a BCM or some such item. Just as likely to fail in any vehicle.

This is true. While it is an inconvienance, it still drove fine. I just could not use some of the "extras" that we come to expect now days. I guess we are just spoiled. :D

Well, just an update. I dropped the van off this morning and it will be tomorrow morning when it is finished. The service writer said they were having a problem re-programing the BCM, so it took longer than they planned.

I also had the tranny flushed while it was in there (29,850 miles on the van and I bought it used).

I will try to remember to ask how much the part would be if not under warranty.

edit: Also, the writer also mentioned they were doing a (not yet announced) recall dealing with the CEL. Seems codes are being thrown for no reason. Not sure what year/models are going to be included in it.

Well, I finally picked it up last night and every thing seemed to work fine till I got home.
I went out to open the pass side sliding door with the remote, and it would not open. Just made a little noise and that was it. I try to open it manually, and the door was locked. Press the unlock button twice, and the door does not unlock. Both pass side doors just wiggle the lock and make some noise. If I press the button 8-10 times quickly it unlocks the doors and the automatic sliding door works fine.
Needless to say, it went back to the dealer this morning. He was supposed to call me with an update sometime today, but of course he never did. This is getting annoying and only having 1 car sucks. If it is not fixed tomorrow, I am going to have to make them give me a loaner for my wife.

Sounds like a typical case of the dealer not knowing what to do and Chrysler being of little or no help at all. We have the dealer section on this website, I wish people would use it more to post all dealer related comments good or bad.

Well, part of this is a dealer gripe, but mainly info on the BCM.

As for the problem, it turns out it was the actuator for the pass front door that was apparently messed up and is what may have caused the problem with the BCM

I appreciate the gripe and info. What I meant was to build up a good/bad opinions of the dealers for reference in the appropriate area. In the future we could compile info for country, state/province, city for quick refernce based on amount of astericks (*) type of rating system. I felt it would become valuable to individuals that could write in and evaluate the dealerships good or bad.

I had my BCM flashed today to add the 3rd power door. According to the tech, the BCM is vin sensitive. You cannot take a BCM out of one van and install it in another. A new one has to come from DC with your vin in the program.

Yea, apparently the BCM has the vehicle mileage set in it along with other things. It took the dealer about 1.5 days to get mine programed (and I also found out the re-installed the original BCM after fixing the door lock, which I need to call the service tech about).
