Hello all,

well it is one of those days when the van is acting crazy. I pulled codes and got p1699. I can't find anything on this code. any comments. even a search on several search engines did not turn up much info.

also the control module that controls the AC, power doors and dash was replaced. the mileage on the odometer is now different.???

No bus data from climate control module means the PCI data bus isn't seeing any info from the climate control panel. All the modules (computers) in the van communicate over two wires called the PCI multiplex data bus. It acts just like the data bus on your home computer. The module in the climate control panel isn't communicating. Could be as simple as a loose connection on the panel. A common problem is overheated and melted connectors on the panel. Might try removing it and checking the connector.

Your mileage is off because they just changed your BCM and neglected to reprogram the correct mileage figure into it. The BCM controls the mileage figure on your odometer.

Why was the BCM?PCM? replaced? Can you expand on "acting crazy". What model year?

thanks for the info. I might need to have you explain or expand your answer after I post this info.

van is 01 T&C limited. 140K 3.8L

van was normal. all systems good. then after not driving for a few days the van was dead. checked battery and voltage was down. jumped the van and it ran fine. about a week later after not driving for a few days, same thing, dead battery. had the battery checked and it needed charging but was a good battery. had the alt checked and it is good. all of this did not throw any check engine lights.

did the key "on / off" thing, it showed p1684 (battery) and also p1699 (?). mechanic came up with the problem being something in the pcm shorted and draining the battery.? replaced the pcm and the odometer mileage changed. have not had enough time since pcm change out to leave the van sitting and see if battery dies again.

also I am not 100% on the use of the word "pcm". I was told this but maybe the real part is the "bcm", which I heard can change the odometer. sorry if the pcm and bcm are not accurte in my descriptions.

also I have heard the expansion valve "hissing" when yopu turn the van off. it only hisses for a few seconds but I do not remember hearing it before.

thanks

If everything on the climate control panel is working I wouldn't worry about the P1699 code. I'd have to bet he changed the BCM. Apparently it was creating what is called a "parasitic drain" on the battery just meaning something is on when it shouldn't be. The BCM normally draws around 30 milliamps of current when everything is off. Your mechanic must have seen something much higher.

BCM = Body Control Module - It controls most of the electronics in the van located under the hood near the fuse panel.

PCM = Powertrain Control Module - The engines brain located either outboard of the battery or behind the drivers side wheel well liner near the headlight

thank you for the information and education.

the van seems almost back to normal. the bcm did come from a donor van and I guess that's why it now reads a different mileage. the ac is working but the driverside is a little warmer than the passenger and rear. even though all settings are set at 60 degrees. also the cd player buttons are all flashing. there are no cds in the slot but all 6 buttons are flashing.? we are still waiting to see if the van can sit for a few days and not have the battery go down.

well, here is an update. it looks like the van had a voltage spike or someone jumped the van and connected the battery cables backwards. I think this is why the bcm went bad and caused the parasitic drain , RIP, mentioned. I also think that the ac and cd issues are related to the same thing. I am going to try and reset the system (disconnect battery) and see what that does. I am also going to run the climate control calibration process. as for all the lights on the multi CD player flashing , I will let you know.
